When Katie Met Cassidy by Camille Perri

If you’re after a light, readable, sexy rom-com, this is for you. It’s a tasteful level of steamy, and it is always a relief to see a love story that strikes the right balance and doesn’t descend into Fifty Shades of Grey territory!

We first meet Katie as a newly-single powerhouse young lawyer, heading into a stressful work meeting with opposing counsel while still a bit of a hot mess from her recently ended engagement. After eyeing off Cassidy in the building lobby, the two end up in the same meeting on opposite sides of the negotiation table.

I loved following their relationship, Katie’s own self-discoverance, and think the author deftly evokes some of the social issues and stereotypes that same sex couples face. It’s also refreshing to read characters in this genre who are given depth in their professional life – both Katie and Cassidy are workaholic successful lawyers. Their struggle to balance a demanding job with a social and romantic life were both relatable and endearing.

I was surprised by how quickly I tore through this – I just could not put it down and wanted to see where Katie and Cassidy’s story went! I’d highly recommend this, particularly if you don’t read a lot in the romance genre as it’s such a good introduction to it.
